An unhurried plan for side streets and early light.

MOD.03 / ENTRY 03

A slow two-day line through old streets, temple gardens, and Kyoto’s quieter edges.

This route favours early starts and short distances over a checklist of landmarks. East Kyoto becomes the thread: begin above the waking city, follow lanes downhill, then leave enough room for gardens, coffee, and unplanned turns.

[ 01 / THE ROUTE ]

TWO DAYS / EAST KYOTO

DAY 01

Higashiyama before the crowds.

  1. Kiyomizu-dera

Arrive with the morning light and take in the city before the approach fills.

  2. Ninenzaka → Yasaka

Follow the stone lanes slowly; let small shops and side streets set the pace.

  3. Gion and Shirakawa

Return when the light softens, then finish with dinner away from the main avenue.

DAY 02

Water, gardens, and a northern walk.

  1. Nanzen-ji

Start among temple grounds, brick aqueduct arches, and the sound of water.

  2. Philosopher’s Path

Walk north beside the canal, pausing wherever the neighbourhood feels quiet.

  3. Okazaki

Close with a museum, a garden, or coffee—one deliberate choice, not three rushed ones.

TRAVEL LIGHT

01

Begin early.

Kyoto changes character before tour groups and traffic arrive.

02

Choose one anchor.

Give each half-day a single destination and let the streets connect the rest.

03

Leave space.

The best part of the route may be the lane, café, or garden that was never planned.
